This week we were unable to have our clinical experience at the hospital because the Joint Commission stopped by. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. The hospitals prefer there are no students around when the Joint Commission is making a visit for obvious reasons along with any added stress individual hospital is already experiencing. We were forced to go back to school grounds instead and focus on homework, studying, and practicing our clinical skills which was SO great because every nursing student wishes he or she had more time. We totally lucked out!
